WHO and JWLEE Center for Global Medicine

Discuss Ongoing Collaboration

Marie Villemin Partow from the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office visited the JW LEE Center for Global Medicine to discuss ongoing work with SNU’s WHO Collaborating Center for Health Information and Library Services (WHO CC HILS). The meeting focused on establishing a work plan for the upcoming year

The first challenging issue discussed was the Institutional Repository for Information Sharing (IRIS), Term of Reference-1 (TOR-1) of the WHO CC HILS. Several groups of WHO staff have appreciated the significant progress of the IRIS project thus far. The first task for the next year is to upgrade the current software version from 1.6 to 3.2, which is used in the WHO headquarters, or to version 4.2, the newest version. The multilingualism function of the WHO Western Pacific Region’s IRIS was the second topic discussed. Different models for presenting multilingual content were considered and the meeting attendees decided to begin developing the system in January 2015 so that the new service will be available during the next WHO Regional Committee Meeting in October. Marie asked the JW Lee Center to send a librarian (Eunsun Park) to Manila for two weeks in January or February.

The second issue discussed during the meeting was on TOR-2 of the WHO CC HILS, supporting Western Pacific country offices in setting up basic library services. Details of Marie and Allison’s visit to Fiji were discussed and training materials from WPRO’s current collection were reviewed. This duty travel will be in February or March 2015. Additional services for WHO staff were also discussed, particularly developing library displays, on-line newsletters and video training materials.

Marie’s visit also included meetings at Naver Library, the National Library of Korea, and the Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors. The external meetings enabled Marie to learn about ongoing efforts in Korea and inform stakeholders about the work of the WHO CC HILS.
